Microsoft recently has issued a new warning to notify IT Admins that Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 will reach end of life.

The end of support for both OS is projected to occur on October 10, 2023, but considering this is Windows Server, Microsoft needs to give enterprises and users enough time to migrate.

There are two Migration options offered by Microsoft, where one is moving everything to the cloud via Azure Virtual Machine or continuing to use Windows Server by switching to a newer version of Windows Server 2022.

Apart from that, there are also other alternative options, of course more expensive namely by buying extended security updates which, like Windows 7 before, will gradually get more expensive every year.

Extended Security Updates (ESUs) for Windows Server 2012 – providing up to three years of security updates only. ESUs will continue for three years, renewable on an annual basis, until October 13, 2026.” Microsoft said.

Now with this news, for those of you who work as an IT Admin or Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2 users, there is still time until Microsoft stops support for this OS, so before October 10 this year, you can immediately start migrating servers to a newer version or buy Cloud services via Azure Virtual Machine, or you can also switch to Linux Server.
