Major Update

We call it a major update because in this update Windows 11 will get a major update that changes the version and build number of Windows 11, say for example Windows 11 21H2 or Original Release with Build OS 10.0.22000, the following year, Windows 11 gets a Major Update the first is Windows 11 22H2 or 2022 Update with changes to the OS Build to 22621.xxx.

This major update itself is sometimes called a Feature Update, because apart from changing the Build Number, there are many new features introduced and tested in previous Insider Releases, including the Dev Channel, Beta Channel and Release Preview.

At a glance, we remember the development of the schedule, in the past in the era of Windows 10 1909 and below, Microsoft released major updates twice a year, for example Windows 10 1803 and Windows 10 1809, both versions were released in the same year, namely 2018, of course each brings many new features and developments in it.

However, according to Microsoft, this change was made so that the Windows 10 update cycle is in accordance with Windows 11 which will also get one major update every year. Even though it is possible that the update changes were made because the two updates in one year seemed rushed and even made users excited because of a bug that storage sense which deleted the contents of the user’s download folder, Microsoft finally decided to change the update release schedule to once a year in the Windows 10 2004 era.

Update Moments

In the Windows 11 era, Microsoft introduced a new name, namely Moment Update, where this update is expected to be presented by Microsoft two to three times in one major update, for example Windows 11 22H2 which gets Moment 1 The first update one month since the official release of Windows 11 22H2 Major Update.

Well in Moment Update all the new features introduced in the announcement / launching The Major Update will begin to be presented to users, whereby users can get the new features that have become highlights The main part of the Major Update, for example, is the Tab in File Explorer that is presented in Windows 11 22H2 Moment 1.

In addition, in the next Moment update, it is reported that Microsoft will bring new changes that have been tested for a long time in the Windows Insider Beta and Dev Channel, but this change is not a feature that is becoming a feature. highlights main, but only as an addition.

In essence, this Moment Update is only a complement to the Major Update itself, but because this Moment Update has only been released once and there is no official documentation yet, many people say that this Moment Update is just an ordinary Cumulative Update with new features in it, considering that this update was released via the Cumulative Update of Windows 11 itself.

Cumulative Update

Every month Microsoft will present a cumulative updates which is usually released on the second Tuesday of the week (or early Wednesday morning in Indonesia), where this update itself is commonly known as Patch Tuesday.

Now, the Cumulative Update itself will contain bug fixes and security and even some improvements to Windows 11 itself, where after getting a cumulative update (for example update KB5019311), the tail of the Windows 11 Build number will change from 22621.521 to 22621.525.

Cumulative Update Preview

If the Cumulative Update is released on the second Tuesday of the week, usually the Cumulative Update Preview is released on the fourth Tuesday or two weeks after the Cumulative Update is released, and it is not uncommon for this update to be available at the end of the month or the beginning of the following month.

This update itself was formerly known as the Optional Update which is different from the Cumulative Update, this update is free for users to download or skip, basically this update will be the basis of the Cumulative Update in the following month.
