After getting support for AVIF, Microsoft will reportedly also add another improvement to their Photos application on Windows 11, the increase is the presence of support for WebP, which has been confirmed directly by Jennifer Gentleman who works as a Senior Program Manager at Microsoft.

Also a little information, at the beginning of May 2023 Microsoft has released a new update for the Photos application for Windows Insider Dev and Canary users, where in version 2023.11050.2013.0 there are a number of new features presented including WebP support.

Thanks for taking the time to share feedback about this - I believe this has been addressed with the Photos app update which is currently rolling out to Insiders in the Dev and Canary Channel.

Please note, you'll need the Wepb Image Extensions installed: https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/webp-image-extensions/9PG2DK419DRG

We have made changes based on this feedback. Try them out in app version 2023.11050.2013.0 or higher. Check the Microsoft Store for updates.

This improvement is part of Microsoft’s response in the Feedback hub, considering that WebP is quite one of the features that many users have requested on Feedback Hub.

Meanwhile, reported from Neowin, reportedly the Photos application has worked well on WebP sample images, but even so, keep in mind that this new feature is still in development and has not been released in general for users.

So, have you Insider Dev and Canary users tried this upgrade? comment below guys.
