Apart from releasing Windows 11 Insider Dev Build 25276 for Windows Insider Dev Channel users, Microsoft appears to be planning a shutdown as well Microsoft Support Diagnostic Tool or commonly abbreviated as MSDT in 2025.
This was first discovered by Startdock Engineer Rafael Rivera at Twitterwhere in the most recent Insider Build 25276, Microsoft showed a banner retirement at MSDT.
Okay, let’s briefly discuss this MSDT, which unfortunately in recent years has been widely reported that MSDT has been abused by bad actors because it can be exploited to run remote execution (RCE). In 2022 alone, there will be two vulnerabilities found.
And the reason why it was removed and discontinued, of course, is to increase the security of the Windows operating system in the future, and if we look at it based on development cycle from Microsoft regarding the Windows OS, in 2024 they plan to release a new OS which is expected to be Windows 12, and of course with the removal of MSDT, this will increase the security level of Windows 12.
