As we know, Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 has been officially abandoned by Microsoft a while ago, where now both Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 will not get any updates including important security updates in them.

But even so, quite a number of users still stay on the OS on the grounds that this OS is still good enough to use, especially on devices with specifications that do not allow Windows 10 and Windows 11 to run.

Regarding the three OS, there is information interesting thing that might make you think that an upgrade is necessary, namely Steam starting on January 1, 2024 will begin to stop their support where after January 1, 2024, it is said that the Steam Client will no longer be able to run on a number of these OSes.

"after that date, the Steam Client will no longer run on those versions of Windows. In order to continue running Steam and any games or other products purchased through Steam, users will need to update to a more recent version of Windows."

Why did Steam do this?, apart from the fact that a number of these OSes have been abandoned by Microsoft, the number of Steam users who still use the OS is only less than 2% (which is around 1.86%), where users currently use more Windows 10 (62.33%) and Windows 11 (32.06%), so for that reason Steam is likely ending support for Windows 7 and Windows 8 / 8.1.

With this report, of course you Steam users who are still using the OS are advised to immediately upgrade to a newer OS, be it Windows 10 or Windows 11, or if you want to play certain games with Steam OS support, then you can use Linux OS to run a number of supported games.

So, are you still using Windows 7, 8 and 8.1? comment below guys.
