Recently, there is interesting news, reported from WinBuzzerMicrosoft seems to have posted a job list for Principal Software Engineer Managerwhich in its initial version explicitly described that Microsoft was trying to build a low-cost PC model that was supported by advertising and subscription plans.
Interestingly, although the specific words regarding this have been removed, the job listing still clearly emphasizes the cloud- and web-first solutions which speaks of a “mission to push cloud firsts to Windows”. Below are job descriptions that Microsoft offers.
“Are you passionate about shaping the future of personal computing? Do you have the passion and experience to build and lead a new engineering team to explore Web and cloud experiences on Windows?, The Windows Incubation team is chartered to explore new concepts for Windows in a cloud- and web-first world. Our team is looking for an exceptional Engineering Manager to build and lead a talented team of passionate engineers. You will work on innovative Web and platform technologies to prototype and explore new experiences. You and your team will partner with Product Management and Design to ideate and build new experiences aligned with the mission to drive cloud first experiences into Windows, create prototypes to validate early thinking, and use on-going customer data and research to validate our ideas. You will be responsible for defining architectures, engineering plans and processes in your team that drives quality and agility and move the team from ideation to shipping. You will play a key leadership role in defining and promoting an inclusive team culture with the best engineering practices to deliver experiences with quality and customer love. If you are that person, contact us!”
Regarding this cheap PC device, maybe this will later be related to Windows 365 which users can get on a subscription basis, and it seems that Windows 365 will be the gateway to this cheap PC that Microsoft is referring to.
Well of course this is still a rumor, because there is still no official news from Microsoft, but if so, of course this will be a bit of a controversy among users, especially if it turns out that this cheap PC will contain ads in it.
Let’s see how this rumor develops in the future.
