Since its introduction, the ROG Zephyrus Duo gaming laptop series does look different from other gaming laptops. Not only always equipped with powerful hardware, this premium gaming laptop series also has two screens in one laptop body. The second screen of ROG Zephyrus Duo is positioned parallel to the keyboard with the same width as the main screen and approximately half the length. What’s interesting is that the second screen is not just a “gimmick” but actually a second screen that can be used for many things. That is why this gaming laptop is very popular not only by gamers, but also content creators to live streamers.
This time, the latest series of two-screen gaming laptops from ROG appears under the name ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 (GX650). As the name implies, the gaming laptop is back with a second screen and has a 16-inch first screen. Why 16-inch? Because this size is very suitable for the needs of its target users, namely gamers, live streamers, and content creators.
Imagine as a gamer you can play games on the main screen while opening a walkthrough or game guide on both screens. Meanwhile, as a live streamer, you can use both screens to monitor live chat, and as a content creator, you have a much wider workspace than a typical laptop.
That’s the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16, a premium gaming laptop designed to make things easier.
Dual Screen for Unlimited Activities
ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 comes with ROG ScreenPad Plus™, a second 14.1-inch display with up to 4K resolution. ROG ScreenPad Plus™ can be used for various usage scenarios, one of which is allowing gamers to access other applications without having to temporarily close the game they are playing. ROG ScreenPad Plus™ is also very useful for content creators who always need more workspace. Coupled with stylus support, the ROG ScreenPad Plus™ on ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 has unlimited potential.
ROG ScreenPad Plus™ also comes to ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 using a specially designed, exclusively designed mechanism. When the main screen is opened, the special mechanism will lift and slide the ROG ScreenPad Plus™ automatically towards the main screen for a more immersive and almost bezel-less user experience. This mechanism also makes ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 have an extra air cavity when operating so that it can significantly improve cooling performance.
ROG Nebula HDR™, the New Standard for Best Gaming Laptop Screens
The ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 is the world’s first laptop to come with the ROG Nebula HDR™ display, a new standard for gaming laptop screens. ROG Nebula HDR™ is built on the basic needs of gaming: speed, brightness and visual quality.
Gaming laptop screens that use ROG Nebula HDR™ such as the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 are confirmed to have panels that have a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, 1100 nits brightness level, are equipped with adaptive sync features, and have a 3ms response time. Not only that, the ROG Nebula HDR™ screen has also been certified PANTONE® Validated Display for color accuracy, TÜV Rheinland for low blue light and anti-flicker, and supports technology from Dolby Vision®.
Unlike other gaming laptop screens, ROG Nebula HDR™ uses a mini LED panel that has 512 dimming zones. Thanks to the adaptation of the Mini LED panel, laptops using ROG Nebula HDR™ such as the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 are able to support and display VESA DisplayHDR™ 1000 certified HDR content with polling rates up to 5400Hz or ten times faster than other laptop screens thanks to the Nebula HDR Engine.
Powerful for All Activities
ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 is powered by AMD Ryzen™ 6000 Series processors and graphics chips up to NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX™ 3080Ti. The combination of the two gives ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 powerful performance for all activities, from AAA gaming, game streaming, to content creation. Not only that, ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 is also equipped with 4800MHz DDR5 memory whose capacity can be upgraded up to 64GB and PCIe 4.0 SSD storage that can be configured in RAID mode for faster performance. All of that is presented in a laptop body that is more compact than last year’s ROG Zephyrus Duo series.
Equipped with powerful hardware, ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 certainly requires the best cooling system. Since last year, the ROG Zephyrus Duo series has been equipped with liquid metal as a thermal compound so that heat can be released more optimally. In 2022, this time ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 uses Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut Extreme Liquid Metal which has a heat conductivity rate of up to 17 times higher than standard thermal paste. The use of this special liquid metal allows ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 to operate at temperatures up to 15ᵒC lower.
Not only that, thanks to the use of Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut Extreme Liquid Metal ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 can operate with a longer boost mode. The use of this special liquid metal also significantly increases the TGP of the GeForce RTX 3080Ti graphics chip installed on the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16, which is up to 165W, far beyond the TGP standard of its predecessor laptop. What’s more, liquid metal won’t dry out like standard thermal paste, so gamers don’t have to worry about performance dropping in the long run.
ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 is now also equipped with a MUX Switch, which is a special chip that can adjust the visual data path displayed on the laptop screen. Through the MUX Switch, the visual data path from the discrete graphics chip can be transferred directly to the laptop screen without having to go through the processor and integrated graphics chip.
MUX Switch is very useful when ROG gaming laptops work using discrete graphics chip embedded in it, just like when playing games. Because visual data can now be displayed directly from discrete graphics chip, in-game performance can also be displayed better. Performance improvements in games using MUX Switch can reach 10-30%.
Here are the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 benchmark results using an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080Ti graphics chip:
More Convenient with Complete Connectivity
Besides being equipped with powerful hardware and a second screen, ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 also comes with very complete and modern connectivity. ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 is equipped with the latest technological ports for modern gaming and content creation needs, such as HDMI 2.1. The latest generation display output port allows ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 to be connected to an external display up to 8K 60Hz or 4K 120Hz resolution.
Wireless connectivity is no less important for gamers and content creators. For this reason, ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 is equipped with the latest generation of WiFi, namely WiFi 6E (802.11ax). Unlike the previous generation WiFi, WiFi 6E comes with an additional frequency option, namely 6GHz which is more stable and has a higher data transfer rate. In addition, ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 has also been equipped with Bluetooth 5.2 as a facility to connect various devices such as wireless headphones or mice.
