As I promised in several articles related to Threads before, it’s finally official a few days ago that I tried Threads, a new text-based social media application from Meta which is a rival to Twitter.
After trying this application, there are a number of things that might be interesting for me to discuss, what I like and what I don’t like about this social media, moreover this social media is very tied to Instagram where we cannot delete Threads accounts without deleting our Instagram account. .

Device Support
One of the things you need to know is that Threads currently only supports iOS and Android, where we cannot access Threads (to make posts and interact with other users) via Desktop / Web.
In my case, here I use Iphone SE 2020 (iOS 16) and Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 as the devices where I installed Threads. And on iOS, Threads can run smoothly without any problems, where I can log in and can use it normally as I should.
But when I try to use Threads on my Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, the application turns out to be a glitch so it’s really impossible for me to use it.

However, from the information of several other Android users, maybe my problem is a unique problem and only occurs in older versions of Android. For Android 10 and above, many report that this application runs normally, are you one of them? comment below.
Threads feature
And just like on Twitter, in Threads we can create posts, repost (or retweet if it’s on Twitter), liking the post, and sharing the post.
What’s interesting, we can immediately share post in Threads to Instagram Stories and even Twitter, and this is the part that I like.
For other features, it’s still the same as social media in general, we can find a homepage which unfortunately currently displays posts universally and not just based on the people we follow, there is a search feature to find other users, profile pages and more. Nothing extraordinary at all.
Meanwhile, there are a number of deficiencies which, in my opinion, these deficiencies must be corrected and added in the future, for example, the homepage that is not in accordance with interest we, then there is no option to save photos, those are the only two things that Meta needs to present in the future to these Threads.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Threads
Little maybe I already have mention above regarding the advantages and disadvantages of this social media, but certainly there are several other points which include:
(+) You can register Threads with your Instagram account, where both of them will be related to each other.
(+) Your Instagram followers can follow you on Threads after they join this new social media.
(+) You can make your profile private or public on Threads and this is one of the mandatory features that might have to exist on a social media.
(+) You can follow And unfollow different accounts on Threads and Instagram, where although related, these issues remain separate. So don’t worry if you don’t want to follow someone on Instagram, you can just follow them on Threads, and vice versa.
(-) You cannot change your username, where this username will be adjusted to your Instagram username.
(-) There is no DM feature, unlike Twitter, Threads doesn’t have a DM feature so like it or not you have to use Instagram to make Direct Messages to other users, and reportedly the Meta party itself doesn’t want the DM feature in their new service .

(-) Cannot delete account, and as previously reported, you cannot delete Threads account without deleting your Instagram account.
Threads Still In Early Stage
Even though it has been released and already has 100 million registered userskeep in mind that when this article was written, Threads were less than 2 weeks old which of course still had many flaws in it.
And even though many users are currently comparing Threads vs Twitter, unfortunately this comparison may not be too fair considering that Threads itself can be said to have just been born and just came to the surface. In the future, Threads may overtake Twitter’s popularity, especially with the many restrictions, such as the limit on viewing the number of Tweets on Twitter, which has made the popularity of social media drastically decrease.

Have you joined?
So now the question is have you joined to be part of Threads users and become one of the other 100 million users? if so, what do you think about this new social media?, comment below guys.
Conclusion
So according to my experience using Threads for the past few days I feel that this application is far from perfect, which is apart from the application glitches on the Asus Zenfone that I use, this application does not display the home page based on following or interest us, and that is the most fatal shortcoming in my opinion because most of the posts that appear are posts that I don’t like.
But overall, with a longer development and adjustment time, maybe Threads can beat Twitter, and even then maybe yes, considering that Twitter can be said to have lasted quite a long time as a text-based social media platform in the era of the onslaught of other social media.
What do you think? comment below guys. And keep in mind that this post is based on my opinions and opinions, so if you have other opinions, don’t hesitate to comment below.
