Recently Microsoft went through announcement the official revealed that they will be bringing a new feature to Microsoft Edge Chromium which aims to give users a better video viewing experience.

Called Video Super Resolution (VSR), this feature is upscalers built-in technology that uses AI technology from Microsoft Research to enhance low-quality videos and sharpens them.

According to Microsoft, this feature will be very useful for users who watch videos with a resolution of 480 or lower, where this resolution is suitable for saving user bandwidth. But friends, please note that to use this feature, users need to at least use a newer device to process AI that supports VSR, at least users need dedicated gpu from Nvidia (RTX 20 Series and later) or AMD (RX5700 and later).

Apart from that, for now, if a user is using a laptop with a Double GPU, which includes an integrated GPU and a dedicated GPU, but still wants to try VSR, the user can change the graphics settings on their device so that Edge uses a dedicated GPU. In the future, Microsoft will provide automatic GPU switching support so that users no longer need to make manual settings.

As for users who don’t have a Dedicated GPU, unfortunately this feature won’t be available because there isn’t enough power for this AI from Microsoft to work.

Now for this feature itself, in the latest version of Microsoft Edge Chromium Canary, you can activate it flags edge://flags/#edge-video-super-resolution which if enabled, any low resolution video will be automatically upscaled by the browser, of course one more thing to keep in mind terms and Conditions apply.
