Microsoft Configurations Manager or formerly known as Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager is an enterprise tool that IT admins use for various activities such as deploying operating systems, managing patches and distributing software and many more.

Now regarding Microsoft Configurations Manager, recently Microsoft has announced that they are making changes to the release flow and cadence of their software.

On that matter, starting with the release of version 2303 of Microsoft Configuration Manager, the product will move to a flow of two updates per year instead of the usual three updates, according to Microsoft, this is done so that the updates are more aligned with the currently released Windows updates every one times in one year.

"Along with better alignment to the Windows cadence and reducing CM deployment management, this change will also allow Configuration Manager to have a longer development cycle to address key customer feature asks while continuing to deliver high quality updates. With this change and the longer development cycle, the Configuration Manager 2309 update will be able to address key customer asks around policy sync, software update troubleshooting, improved alerts, dashboarding, and more. Hotfix rollups and security updates will continue to be made available as necessary to address any critical bugs." Ungkap Microsoft.

Now with this change, the next release after version 2303 (March) will be version 2309 (September), which means that the xx07 and xx11 updates will be combined in one xx09 release in the future. Version 2303, 2403, 2503 etc. will continue to function as a base release, with no change to the support lifecycle of the current forked version, which remains 18 months from general availability.

Confusing? don’t worry because this change is not for all users, but only IT Admins who use the Microsoft Configuration Manager who have to adapt to this change from Microsoft.
