Here are 5 things you need to know about the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Chip

As you know, a few days ago Qualcomm has just inaugurated two of its newest chipsets, namely Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. Well, for those of you who are curious about the most powerful chip from Qualcomm, here are some interesting things related to the chipset. the:

1. Based on TSMC

Qualcomm explained that for the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 series of chips, they no longer rely on assembly from Samsung — this time using a base from TSMC. This finally paid off because even though these chips both use the 4nm architecture, TSMC managed to provide some fairly decent improvements in the performance and durability sectors.

2. Performance Increase 10%

The performance sector is one of the ones that has increased, it’s not too significant because Qualcomm only managed to increase CPU performance to 10% higher. This is inseparable from the Cortex-X2 Core which has a speed of @3.2GHz — the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip stuck at 3.0Ghz. But that’s not all, because almost all the cores on this chip also experience the same speed increase as Cortex-X2.

Likewise for the GPU sector, which is now able to run at a frequency of 10% higher while reducing power usage by up to 30%. In addition, the current AI engine has 20% better performance compared to its predecessor.

3. Better Power Efficiency

Earlier we mentioned a little about power, but overall the power efficiency of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip only increased by 15%. Simply put, phones using this chipset can stream video for 1 hour 30 minutes longer than those using its predecessor chip. Likewise for phones and light multi-tasking, where Qualcomm claims that with this chip you can do both things for up to 5 hours and 30 minutes longer.

4. Still Have Hot Issues?

Again and again, there is still a serious problem lurking in the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip and Qualcomm itself confirms this. According to them, this chip has never experienced problems in connectivity or in image processing capabilities. The main problem is when a heavy workload will make the temperature rise and the battery percentage drop faster.

5. Available From Q3 2022

Qualcomm says that Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 devices will be available for the first time in Q3 next (July-September) and there is a long list of OEMs currently lining up for the chip which includes Asus ROG, Black Shark, HONOR, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, OSOM, realme, Red Magic, Redmi, vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE.
