For those of you who don’t know, Microsoft releases a number of different updates depending on their schedule, which includes major updates / feature updates, moment updates, cumulative updates and preview updates, this has been explained briefly on the WinPoin page following.

But friends, based on the latest report from Microsoft, starting April 2023 they will present a new Non Security Update exactly two weeks after the Cumulative Update (or Patch Tusday) or more precisely in the fourth week of every month and two weeks before the next Cumulative Update.

Now, I was also confused about this change, because basically this update is similar to the Preview update as before (in the Windows 10 era this update was known as optional updates), besides that this update will also be available on the optional updates page in Settings > Windows Updates.

However, based on the information explained by Microsoft, this change will be more consistent with their Optional Update release schedule, because previously even though it was scheduled for release in the fourth week, sometimes releases were made in the third week and even the fifth week or the first week of the following month.

"Starting in April 2023, we now target optional non-security preview releases for the fourth week of the month. We have found this to be the optimal time for us to publish and for you to consume these updates. That's two weeks after your latest monthly security update and about two weeks before you'll see these features become part of the next mandatory cumulative update. We're excited for this improvement as it is meant to optimize the validation of payloads, improve consistency, and enhance the predictability of your testing, update, and upgrade experience." ungkap Microsoft.

According to Microsoft, they believe that the fourth Sunday of every month will be the best time for users to download and install this Update for Windows 10 or 11 which contains new features and bug fixes (non security updates).

And besides that guys, if we dive deeper, previously, Microsoft coined the terms “B”, “C”, and “D” updates to describe monthly updates based on different times when they are released in a month. And “The term “Preview Non Security Update” release now replaces what is commonly called ‘C’ or ‘D’ release to align with the current process”

So with that in mind, now the Preview update schedule will be more precise than before without any changes to the content occurring in it. So that’s a bit of information that is quite confusing.

What do you think? Comment below guys, let’s speculate and have opinions in the comments column below.
